About YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Violence against women is NOT okay! Together, we can help ensure that women and their children have a safe, secure place to turn right here in Peterborough.

When and where is this year's walk?

12 noon on Friday, May 24, 2019 beginning at Confederation Park (499 George St N, Peterborough).

What will my fundraising efforts support?

Funds raised through YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes support Safe Nights at YWCA Crossroads Shelter for women and children fleeing abuse.

Learn more about the importance of Safe Nights here.

Who can participate?

All ages, genders, abilities (and all shoes!) are welcome.

Please remember, the shoes are just a symbol. Being present at the walk and fundraising for a cause you believe in is what makes all the difference for local women and children fleeing abuse. We encourage participants to wear shoes they feel are comfortable (i.e., their own high heels, red flats, running shoes, etc.) while taking part in the event.

What is the minimum pledge to participate?

1 Safe Night ($64.65) is required in order to receive a t-shirt and lunch on the day of the walk, as well as shoes for those who choose to wear our red high heels (available in men's and women's sizes on a first come first served basis upon check-in on Friday, May 24th.)

What is the 1 Safe Week Prize?

This year, participants who raise over $452.55 (1 Safe Week at YWCA Crossroads Shelter = $64.65 x 7 days) will be entered in a draw to win a $500 gift certificate generously donated by Primal Cuts and a 3 Piece Conversation Set (valued at $799), generously donated by Leon's Peterborough.

How do I register?

Simply choose to Register as a WalkerCreate a Team or Join a Team online.

Ask friends and family to support you online, or download and print an optional pledge form.

When and where is check-in on Friday, May 24th?

Check-in is mandatory for all participants and begins at 11:00 am at Confederation Park, across from Peterborough City Hall.

Where will I be walking?

As in previous years, the Walk will begin at 12 noon at Confederation Park and will proceed down George St to King St, up Water St and return to Confederation Park.
