Ajax Rotary Polar Plunge – “About Us” section for website

The 2020 Ajax Rotary Polar Plunge is a joint fundraising initiative between the Rotary Club of Ajax, Ontario Power Generation (OPG), and the Durham District School Board (DDSB)’s Make a Difference Poverty Strategy Program.

The goal is to raise $15,000 for Bolton C. Falby Public School’s breakfast program by dressing up in your favourite superhero get-up and taking the polar plunge in Lake Ontario! All proceeds will go towards providing nutritious food to students at the school, to ensure they will be ready to start the day with a full belly.

Food Poverty in Durham Region

The idea to raise money for Bolton C. Falby PS’s breakfast program stems from a greater need to provide nutritious food to families throughout Durham Region.

Food insecurity is defined as not being able to afford safe, nutritious food due to lack of money. According to the Durham Region Health Department website, 66,100 Durham residents do not have enough money to buy food. That’s 14 per cent of Durham residents.

Leaping for Charity

On Saturday, February 29th, we will take the polar plunge in hopes that the event inspires other community organizations to see just how impactful our unified support can be. As community partners, we are stronger together.
